Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

What do Akhil and I do on a daily basis to live greener?

• We recycle EVERYTHING that can be recycled. We have specific marked trashcans in our house for different types of materials.
• All the moving boxes we had were given away for free on Craigslist. There was no way I was going to throw out 70 cardboard boxes. People were very happy to come to our house to retrieve used moving boxes for free!
• Most of the light bulbs in our house are compact fluorescents which are energy efficient
• Our dishwasher, washing machine and dryer are all energy efficient using less water and electricity. Our dishwasher does not have a drying mode to save energy. Our washing machine uses minimal amount of water and the dryer has a self sensor to turn off automatically when the clothes are dry.
• We reuse ALL plastic bags. It’s a rarity that we throw away plastic grocery bags. If we have an overload of plastic bags, we recycle them.
• Yesterday when I was at the grocery store, they had a catalogue of cute reusable bags, so I ordered some. When I get them I will definitely show them to you. I do feel guilty that I have not purchased any of these bags before. The ones the grocery store usually sells are ugly. I am glad I finally found cute ones! :o)
