Article That My Mom Wrote

The Cleveland Plain Dealer asked my mom to write an article called "Getting heart smart with Omega-3 fatty acids". Today the article appeared in the newspaper! It’s a really good article with a lot of information! She didn't even tell us that she wrote this article. This morning she sent me a link to this article and I read it thinking she just sent it as nutrition advice. Then when I was just about to close the window I saw her name on the article!!! I was really excited!

Here is the link the to the article. I am proud of my mommy! :o)

Raspberry Torte.

Last night I had my book club over to discuss Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I read this book last year and loved it so I picked it for the book club. Well the group consensus seemed that they thought the author complained too much about her life. Oh well…I liked it though! Anyways, I made this really decadent raspberry torte last night for dessert. I thought it looked cool so I wanted to post a picture of it!

Here is the recipe if you want to check it out!

Nervous!

One of Akhil’s friends from residency whom currently lives in Chicago was driving back from their vacation in Virginia Beach last night. Akhil and his friend have not seen each other in about 3-4 years so his friend thought to call Akhil since he is driving through Cleveland. So they decided to stop by our house since we live only 3 miles from the Turnpike. They brought their 2 little kids whom were 5 and 3 years old. BOY did those kids make me nervous!!!!! I am so not used to having kids run around all over the place. I think Akhil’s friend’s wife could tell I was nervous because many times they were about to throw their bowl of soup I made them on the floor. I was thinking “my brand new flooooors! and my boowwwl!”. Then I thought they were going to break a bunch of things that they were running past all over the house! I think they were excited to be able to run around because they were trapped in the car all day! Thank God nothing broke but there was a spill and it didn’t phase Akhil and he just sat there watched his friend clean it up!!! Haha! I think my hubs was in laalaa land or something! And of course, I could not stop laughing and no one really knew what I found funny!

It’s a good thing his friends showed up this weekend because the house is finally in order. Tonight I am having my book club friends over!

My New Ride - Woohoo!

On Saturday on got a new car! The lease on my car was going to be over in 2 weeks so we really needed to make a decision. Akhil and I checked out a few cars over the past month and so I decided that I really wanted a SUV because of all the snow we get here. So on Saturday morning before Akhil went to work I told him I was going to go to Infiniti to check out their SUV and then we can figure out what car to get. I went there, test drove, negotiated (all by myself!), signed, and drove away with it!!! (I did call him at work to make sure it was okay if I got the car! He would have KILLED me if we didn’t talk it over first!) That was my first time negotiating for a car by myself! I was so proud of myself! :o) Then when Akhil came home I asked him if he was surprised that I negotiated a good price by myself and he said “No, you are the CEO / Organizer of this household …I am beginning to think you really don’t need me very much!!!” Haha! Of course I assured him that was a very factual statement! j/k

We Moved in the Biggest Blizzard in 30 Years!

The move was quite comical and stressful on Saturday with all the snow we got! We got a phone call at 7am from the movers saying they are not coming. I told them they have no choice and they have to come. The guy said he doesn’t want to die today. I told him its Ohio and suck it up, it snows here…so anyways I promised them a big tip if they come. So they talked to the manager and they came. Akhil shoveled our driveway for them but it was not enough because of all the snow accumulation throughout the day! So we didn’t have much money on us to give the promised “big tip” so Akhil left to go to the ATM. The movers were like “uhhh he probably shouldn’t leave its bad on the roads” but he did. Akhil the procrastinator did not have any of his stuff packed because he thought he would do it while the movers were there. Well needless to say on his way to the ATM, he helped a few people that were stuck and then finally he got stuck himself for 3 hours!

I packed up all his crap…I was so mad (but glad he was safe!) because he had 8 months to start packing and didn’t do a thing with his clothes and junk (he keeps EVERYTHING!). So I just threw his stuff in suitcases because we ran out of boxes. So by the time it came to his junk …we had no more suitcases or boxes and so I was very annoyed. I thought it would be easier to just throw stuff away. So I did. Whatever, he doesn't need it anyways…

The movers were falling all over the place with our furniture. It was sooo icy, slippery, cold, and just yucky. One guy fell about 5 times with a fridge on his back.
So they packed up the first moving truck with all of our essential furniture and other stuff. Moved it off the driveway and it got stuck on the street. They could not get the truck to move!

Here is the stuck truck. It doesn't look like a lot of snow but when the streets haven't been plowed and there is a 18 inches on the ground...its hard to get around!
So they did get the second truck on the driveway…they packed it up.

Now Akhil came back…and he was wet and cold with no dry clothes. I felt so bad for him! He did not go to the ATM in this terrible weather but did make a stop at STARBUCKS!!! He was soo annoyed at being stuck, he needed a drink - coffee!

I felt so bad for these guys…there were really really nice though. So then finally their manager came and told them to just finish packing the house, lock up, and leave the trucks. They are not going to finish the move until Monday!

I told the movers Akhil and I HAVE to go to work on Monday and that they need to deliver our stuff on Sunday. They said that they couldn’t and since we have to work, I should draw out a diagram where everything should go. I was like WHAAAT???? I don’t even know what I have in those boxes and also there is no way I want MOVERS in my house without me being there! So after some serious begging and pleading they did agree to Sunday.

So they locked up the trucks and the manager took them back to their cars and we were sitting in our empty dirty house with no clothes, no food, no toiletries, NOTHING! All we had was TONS of snow outside (and each other!).

So we decided to go to the new empty clean house because that is better than our wet dirty house. We slept there and then the movers came on bright sunny Sunday with all our stuff! Yay! We were sooo happy!!!!

Goodbye 6664 Hidden Lake Trail!

So tomorrow is moving day! The movers are set to arrive at 8:00 AM to begin moving all of our stuff. Yesterday they came and took apart our workout equipment so they can take it out of the basement. There is supposed to be a big snow storm coming tonight so the move will be quite comical and interesting!

Well as excited as we are to move into our brand new home we are also a bit sad to leave the house we live in now. There have been so many wonderful memories in this home. The past 5 years of living here have flown by so quickly!!! Akhil bought our house a few months after we began dating in 2002. The first few months after we got married I worked hard on painting the house and decorating it so it would not be so much of a bachelor pad anymore! (and got rid of much of his dumpy furniture).

Good thing we are only 2 miles away so we can do drivebys every so often. Oh yeah and if anyone knows someone who is thinking of moving into a townhouse in Cleveland, please let me know! Our place is STILL up for sale!!!

Housewarming Puja (Blessings)

As of last Tuesday it has been official that the house is ours! We passed all points of inspection with the city and the bank. So while in Argentina our builder, Dominic emailed us to let us know. We were really excited because it got finished a week and a half early! Yesterday afternoon we had our priest (the same one that married us) come and bless our house before we move in. He did his typical housewarming puja which I had a hard time sitting Indian style the whole time. He asked me if I do Yoga which I replied, “Yes, for 5 years”. I got a weird look for not being too flexible! Haha! He blessed our house with peace, love, prosperity, fortune, health, kids, the whole nine yards.

In the middle of the puja he got up and started taking pictures with his cell phone. It was really funny and really unexpected. They all came out blurry but here it is.
