No More Peeping Toms!

Finally...we have blinds in our house! We had all these stupid ghetto paper blinds that were so annoying. I got so annoyed with them a few weeks ago, I ended up taking most of them down in which they tore some paint off the walls! (I was soo MAD) Since I took them down we hated at night the houses behind us could see us in our family room and kitchen!

The blinds finally came in and were installed yesterday by 102 year old man who was extremely deaf so I finally stopped talking to him while he was installing them. He even wore his dirty shoes in the house but I didn't have the heart to ask him to take them off!

This is our kitchen blinds which are my favorite!

Tables Finally Came.

Here are the tables we got for our kitchen and dining room. After a lot of frustration and yelling Akhil had to do to get everything, they finally came. But they did make us the wrong chairs for the dining room so those are being remade. We love the new tables and wanted something that would look nice for a long long time! Now I need to get glass toppers for them so they don’t get all scratched up!

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

Happy Earth Day!

What do Akhil and I do on a daily basis to live greener?

  • We recycle EVERYTHING that can be recycled. We have specific marked trashcans in our house for different types of materials.
  • All the moving boxes we had were given away for free on Craigslist. There was no way I was going to throw out 70 cardboard boxes. People were very happy to come to our house to retrieve used moving boxes for free!
  • Most of the light bulbs in our house are compact fluorescents which are energy efficient
  • Our dishwasher, washing machine and dryer are all energy efficient using less water and electricity. Our dishwasher does not have a drying mode to save energy. Our washing machine uses minimal amount of water and the dryer has a self sensor to turn off automatically when the clothes are dry.
  • We reuse ALL plastic bags. It’s a rarity that we throw away plastic grocery bags. If we have an overload of plastic bags, we recycle them.
  • Yesterday when I was at the grocery store, they had a catalogue of cute reusable bags, so I ordered some. When I get them I will definitely show them to you. I do feel guilty that I have not purchased any of these bags before. The ones the grocery store usually sells are ugly. I am glad I finally found cute ones! :o)

Vibrant.

Here are flowers that my sister-in-laws, Anjali and Shreem sent us. For our house they have gotten us a monthly delivery of flowers which I truly look forward to in the middle of each month! I was excited on Monday when I came home from work and they were sitting at our door! If you know me, you know I love fresh cut flowers!

I did want to take a picture of the flowers last month but I when I got around to it, they began to die. :( Therefore I made a priority of it this month!

Wanna Drink?

I just realized this weekend that I never posted pictures of the bar. That is why my parents stopped by on Saturday to see how it turned out...Anyways, some of the cabinet pieces for the bar didn’t come in on time before we moved in so they couldn’t complete it. Finally the parts arrived and they were able to finish the bar. I decided to go with some other company that my builder did not recommend to do all the granite in our house because they were a lot cheaper. This company is run by Chinese people and now I know why they are cheaper. So the Chinese men came to install the granite in the basement and boy was there a communication barrier. No one spoke English and I was trying to communicate with them in sign language. It really got on my nerves that no one spoke English. Furthermore, it is illegal for people who don’t know English to drive. I have no idea how they found their way to our house!

This basement is Akhil’s pride and joy. It’s my pride and joy that he now hangs out in the basement to watch all his sports so I don’t have to hear him yelling and screaming at the TV!
We are really happy with how it turned out!

Kermit Update.

This morning I checked on the frog and it was still there. Akhil put 3 different ramps last night for it to climb out. So it either was stuck there for a longer than we noticed and had no energy or it is really stupid. It's color was really yucky too so I think it did not eat for a while. Akhil got a shovel this morning and scooped kermit up (it was really scared, seeing a huge shovel coming at it!) and let it loose in our mud swamp of a yard. I have a feeling he is now stuck in the mud. I don't feel liking checking on it because its raining out. Oh well...we tried.
Looks like he's all happy now with his banjo!

The Stuck Frog.

Today my parents came over for lunch and we were hanging out in the basement. All the sudden I noticed a frog trying to climb up the basement scapewell window! It appeared that the frog got stuck in the scapewell and could not get out. So I kept checking on it today and it is still there. So Akhil put a wooden ramp up for Mr. Kermy. Let see if it is smart enough to figure out what to do with the ramp!

You can see it in the bottom left corner of the picture. Here you will notice the steps and so I don't think its strong legs can jump up to the top of the scapewell.

Trip to Phoenix.

On Sunday we returned from our family vacation in Phoenix. We all had a great time relaxing and enjoying the hot weather (It was about 85 everyday!). We toured one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s houses – Taliesin West. This is one of the houses he built for himself and also had his architectural school in as well. We did a part way hike up Camelback mountain twice. Rachu and I went one day with Akhil and then the second day with my mom. She got a pretty good workout hiking up the mountain! We were proud of her! And the rest of the time we basically just lounged by the pool. At the last minute Rachu’s husband Arun couldn’t come on the trip because of work but then Friday night he showed up out of nowhere! We all were so surprised!!! It was nice to have the whole family together on a relaxing vacation. :o)

Pulmonary Hypertension Article.

Today Akron Beacon Journal published an article that Akhil was interviewed for last week regarding Pulmonary Hypertension. He wasn’t too thrilled to do this interview because he had to wake up early on his day off to talk to the newspaper! He did do a radio commercial too but we are not too sure what happened to that. The radio commercial was suppose to be a TV commercial but he didn’t have time after work to go to record so they did a recording over the phone.

Here is the link to the article.

Horray for Akhil! :o)

Sofas Have Arrived...

Our family room furniture arrived 2 weeks ago. Every weekend I keep forgetting to take a picture of it since it is daylight outside. After I get home from work I tried a few times and since its dark out the colors turned out bad. So that is why it took me a while to post a picture of it. The coffee table that we had in the old house matches perfectly with this set!

We have more furniture that we ordered that is coming this Monday..yay!
